The story of Bodegas Nestares Eguizábal is deeply rooted in family tradition and a love for our land. It all began in 1983, when, under the guidance of José María Nestares Goicoechea and María Luisa Eguizábal Martínez, we planted our first vines in Galilea, a small, picturesque village in Eastern La Rioja. Recognizing the potential of our location, our goal has always been to take advantage of the region’s unique high-altitude setting and climate to create exceptional vineyards. Since then, the spirit of family-owned winery in Galilee has guided every decision, always with love and respect for our roots.
Fifteen years later, in 1998, we took the next big step: we began producing our own wines. The idea was clear from the start: to capture in every bottle the passion and effort we had poured into each vineyard plot, transforming the quality of our grapes into wines that would speak to their origin. Today, our winery remains a family-run venture driven by dedication, the love we inherited from our parents, respect for La Rioja’s traditions, and a constant commitment to innovation. Every bottle that leaves our hands reflects our history, our land, and our commitment to excellence.
Our vineyards are located in the heart of Eastern La Rioja, in the municipality of Galilee, and are characterized by varying elevations ranging from 530 to 640 meters above sea level. This range of elevations, combined with nutrient-poor soils and a Mediterranean climate with continental influences, creates the perfect conditions for growing high-quality grapes.
At Bodegas Nestares Eguizábal, these high-altitude vineyards They are the soul of our wines: they bring freshness, balance, and a distinct personality that faithfully reflects the character of our land. Each vintage is the result of our family’s hard work and deep respect for a unique environment that makes every bottle a piece of Galilee.
(530 m, 4 ha), planted in 1983, is our most iconic vineyard. Its elevation produces grapes with a fresh acidity, ideal for wines intended for long-term aging.
(530 m, 6.5 ha), located on clay-loam soils, is a new vineyard planted in 2018. It is a valley headland with high mineral content, producing Tempranillo wines with good acidity and concentration.
(640 m, 7.5 ha) a vineyard with clay-limestone soil, where we have been growing Tempranillo vines since it was planted in 1989.
(620 m, 7.5 ha) The land in this vineyard lay fallow—“llecas”—until the advent of tractors in the 1960s. Planted with Tempranillo, it has uneven, shallow soil with plenty of boulders.
(600 m, 7 ha) planted with Tempranillo vines that are over 30 years old; the clay-limestone soil, combined with other conditions, produces high-quality harvests.
(570 m, 3 ha) was planted in 2013 with Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay grapes. It has gravelly soil over a clay-limestone subsoil, yielding an average crop.
Our commitment to tradition and quality is reflected in the varieties we grow in Galilea, the heart of Eastern La Rioja. Each vine is the result of decades of family effort and symbolizes the union between inherited knowledge and the constant care we devote to our vineyards.
Thanks to this diversity, we can produce different styles of wine, from full-bodied reds to crisp whites and rosés, always respecting the unique character of our land and our grapes. In every bottle of Bodegas Nestares Eguizábal Here lies the essence of a family-run vineyard, tended with care and a vision for the future.
The queen of our vineyards is, without a doubt, Tempranillo, Rioja’s most iconic grape variety. This red grape brings balance, body, and a unique aromatic profile that make it the foundation of our red wines.
Elegance and versatility. This grape produces white wines with a silky texture, aromas of white fruit, and a subtle hint of oak that enriches their complexity during aging.
Freshness and character. It is characterized by its citrus aromas, herbaceous notes, and vibrant acidity, making it ideal for those looking for modern, refreshing white wines.
